Why So Sad? is a campaign set up by Scottish skater John Rattray to help raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. The end goal is to make sport a more common theme in people's lives, as it helps boost your mood and provide a break from daily life. Rattray developed the campaign in 2017, after losing his sister to suicide and dealing with depression himself, allowing various people within the skating community to feel more confident to speak up and discuss their own mental battles. The shoe has an array of details such as the blue swoosh that fades to yellow over time nodding to the process of dealing with emotional change and working to get to a level of happiness we consider a baseline. The rest of the shoe is kitted out in contrasting tones of blue, whilst Rattray's signature icon of the Predatory Bird riding a bike features on the lateral heel, and a question mark replaces the standard Nike branding on the heels of each shoe.
